Recovery

SAMSHA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) defines Recovery as “A process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential.”

A person can improve the outcome of recovery with the mindful management of one’s overall health, understanding the importance of having basic needs met, finding purpose and meaning in life, maintaining a sense of community involvement, building a support system and enjoying healthy relationships.

Recovery is a holistic process and encompasses an individual’s whole life; mind, body, spirit, and community.  It is a journey that includes acknowledging the experiences of your past along with the traumas of those experiences and, at the same time, a willingness to move forward.
