Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a treatment method that originated from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and was designed to help individuals gain control over suicidal and self-harming behaviors.  DBT has become one of the more desirable behavioral therapies for treating chronic depression, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance abuse and eating disorders.

I particularly like this model because it is rooted in Western Psychology and Eastern Philosophy, and uses mindfulness as a core skill to help individuals cope with emotional dysregulation and ineffective behaviors. There are other skills that are incorporated into this model, and all are effective tools that can help individuals reach personal, career, and relationship goals.
